Why Hydration Therapy?
Probably the number one question I receive! People wonder how getting intravenous (IV) fluids can benefit them more than drinking water or gatorade after a big night out, a hardcore workout, or other states of dehydration. So, let’s settle this once and for all.
At Revitalize, most all of our packages come with a liter of fluids. Sure, you could try to drink a liter of fluids, but you’d feel pretty bloated, and possibly nauseated. It could leave you feeling worse than before you started. Plus, it would take greater than 30 minutes to ingest that much fluid, which is the average amount of time it takes for one of our infusion treatments. Additionally, our fluids do not contain plain ol’ tap water, which is not suitable for IV consumption, by the way! Our fluids are jam packed with vital electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals that are crucial for our bodies to function at their best. These are also the same electrolytes and nutrients that become depleted after a big night of over-indulgence, a heavy workout or training session, or a GI bug that keeps you up all night.
And, finally, there’s something called the First Pass Effect that occurs in our gastrointestinal tracts when we consume a vitamin or drug. When you consume a substance orally, say Vitamin C for instance, it must first be broken down by the gastrointestinal system into smaller substances before it can begin working in our bodies. This breakdown process greatly reduces the bioavailability, or the concentration of a substance available to enter the bloodstream and begin working the body. So, you took 1000 milligrams of Vitamin C because you felt a sore throat or a cold coming on. Taken orally, roughly about one-third of that 1000 milligrams actually enters the circulation to help ramp up your immune system and begin to fight that illness.
In contrast, say you got a high-dose Vitamin C infusion at Revitalize. Because the fluids and Vitamin C are delivered directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the GI tract entirely, 100% of the Vitamin C is available to kick-start that immune system and get you feeling better, faster!
